To travel from the Alps in the north of Italy to the tip of the country’s toe is to travel through several different countries – from the picturesque northern lakes, through Tuscan hill towns and golden countryside to the canals of Venice and the piazzas, museums and galleries of Florence, Siena and Rome. Further south lies Naples on its stunning bay, the dramatic lands of Puglia and Calabria and the untamed beauty of Sicily and Sardinia.
